Bazzana’s two-homer day not enough as Giants outlast Guardians in desert heat

  • March 21, 2026

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (WOIO) – Travis Bazzana drove in five runs with a home run and a grand slam, but the Guardians fell to the San Francisco Giants 10-7 on Saturday in 102-degree heat.

Bazzana hit a solo shot off Robbie Ray in the fifth inning, then connected for a grand slam during a five-run sixth as Cleveland rallied. Bo Naylor went 2 for 3 with two walks, doubled in a run in the sixth and scored on Bazzana’s slam.

Cleveland right-hander Tanner Bibee allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings in his final spring start. Bibee finished the spring with 23 innings and did not issue a walk. Cade Smith, Tim Herrin and Shawn Armstrong worked the final three innings for the Guardians.

Jace LaViolette, Cleveland’s 2025 first-round pick, hit a solo homer in the ninth for his first home run of the spring.

Prior to the game, the Guardians optioned LHP Logan Allen to Triple-A Columbus, and traded INF Carter Kieboom to the Phillies for cash.

The Guardians (13-14-1) will play the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday in Goodyear, Arizona. Gavin Williams (1-1, 5.68) is scheduled to start for Cleveland against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (1-1, 5.93). The game is set for a 12:05 p.m. MST first pitch.
