This afternoon the Cincinnati Reds made four more roster cuts. The team has optioned outfielders JJ Bleday and Rece Hinds to Triple-A Louisville, as well as reliever Zach Maxwell. Cincinnati also reassigned catcher Will Banfield to minor league camp.
Those moves drops the number of players still in big league camp to 31, but that includes two players in Hunter Greene and Caleb Ferguson who are beginning the year on the injured list, and three players who are still in camp who were told they were going to be sent to Triple-A but could remain in camp if they chose. That leaves the Reds at 26 players that are healthy and at least for now not being sent to Triple-A. With other teams still sorting out their roster there’s a potential for trades or waiver wire claims with other teams that could push someone out but if that does not happen then the Opening Day roster is set.

To note here that Burns, Lowder, and Williamson are going to be in some sort of non-usual 3-pitcher situation where one of the three will be a reliever but follow one of the starters and pitch multiple innings. Whoever that happens to be at the time they will only be scheduled to throw that day and won’t be a part of the “regular” bullpen.

Nathaniel Lowe is not currently on the 40-man roster, so he will need to be added. Hunter Greene, who will miss much of the first half of the season, can be moved to the 60-day injured list and open up a spot for Lowe with placing anyone on waivers.
