A farewell ceremony for Shigeo Nagashima—one of the greatest contributors to Japanese baseball and affectionately known as “Mr. Giants”—was held at Tokyo Dome on November 21.
Eulogies were delivered by Sadaharu Oh, who recorded 868 career home runs, Hideki Matsui, the 2009 World Series MVP, as well as several other figures closely associated with Nagashima’s career.
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ichiro Suzuki—who was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame this year—and other distinguished guests also appeared in video messages to honor Nagashima’s remarkable legacy and to pay tribute to the beloved icon, who passed away on June 3.
