Remember “torpedo bats” in MLB? The Seattle Mariners do.

The team had stars Julio Rodríguez and Randy Arozarena participate in a comedy sketch where a staffer introduces supposed alternatives to the torpedo bat, including a “Thor-pedo” bat:

While their usage dated back to 2024 and earlier, the torpedo bats were a subject of fascination early into the 2025 season. YES Network announcer Michael Kay pointed them out during a New York Yankees broadcast, and that coincided with the Bronx Bombers bludgeoning the Milwaukee Brewers in their opening series.

The attention eventually subsided for the most part as torpedo bats weren’t ultimately a great equalizer for hitters.

Perhaps the Mariners will stumble into a solution. They might have a hard time getting Arozarena’s “Torpedo Ultra Deluxe Supreme” approved by MLB, though.
