NORTH EAST, Md. — SUNY Ulster’s baseball team earned a doubleheader split with Cecil College with a 12-3 victory in the nightcap on Sunday, March 22.
After dropping the first game 5-4 in seven innings to Cecil College (10-8), the Senators (2-7) collected 14 hits on the way to a 12-3 victory in the seven-inning finale.
SUNY Ulster’s Noah Devolin had a homer and three RBIs to lead the attack. Forrest Mitterbauer and Edwin Bueno each drove in a pair of runs and Jaden O’Neil added an RBI. O’Neil was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Austin Blessing was 3-for-5. Bueno and Sean Gallagher each contributed two hits.
Ashton Hotaling started on the mound and got the win for the Senators, allowing five hits and one run (none earned) over three innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Onteora High graduate Anthony Umhey didn’t surrender a hit in two innings in the win. He gave up one earned run, walking four and striking out one.
Gallagher drove in two runs and Bueno chipped in with one RBI in the opening-game loss. Blessing had two hits.
“Our overall record doesn’t show how good we’re playing right now,” SUNY Ulster coach Randy Delanoy said.
The Senators will next face Bryant & Stratton College of Albany in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25.
