The Toronto Blue Jays could still look to add depth on the mound, given some of the injuries they’ve dealt with, and one intriguing target comes from the Kansas City Royals

With roster decisions often forcing tough cuts, valuable arms can become available, and Toronto could be in a position to take advantage.

FanSided’s Jacob Milham pointed to a potential fit involving right-hander Ryan Bergert, a pitcher who has impressed but finds himself squeezed out of Kansas City’s current plans.

“Toronto could also be more aggressive and target one of Kansas City’s higher-upside depth arms, namely Bergert. The former San Diego Padres pitcher was excellent for much of his first run with the Royals and looked strong again in his first camp with the club. But his options and the entrenched names ahead of him pushed him off the Opening Day roster.”

The Royals decided to send him down, and a lot of that isn’t because of what he did on the mound, but rather the reality that they’re just aren’t enough spots in Kansas City right now. I love what the Royals have done throughout the past few months and years, even, and I expect them to be a very good team this spring and summer.

There’s something to be said about him struggling a bit in Spring Training with a 7.24 ERA in 13.2 innings, but he was very good in the 2025 regular season, and I think there’s more to be said about that.

If the Blue Jays could land him for the right price, I think it’s a deal that just makes a lot of sense.
