(WJFW) – A local homeless shelter needs support to keep the lights on, and they’re hoping members of the community will step up to the plate to help them. Organizing a community bus trip fundraiser to support their efforts while cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers this season.
Frederick Place in Rhinelander the last six seasons have brought around 60 locals to American Family Field for a ball game. Executive Director Abbey Dall Lukowski says it’s one of their biggest yearly events and is a great way for families to help support the homeless.
Dall Lukowski said, “I think it’s always important to always engage the next generation of leaders. And so when families get engaged in an event like this and they’re bringing their kid along to the ballpark they’re also teaching their kids the value of community service and the value of caring for your neighbor.”
Dall Lukowski added that the Brewers give them discounts on tickets with second section seats. Every year the event makes the shelter around five thousand dollars.
“That’s a week’s worth of stay here at Frederick Place, so it’s helpful and just a great way to engage the community, engage that good old fashion American ballgame fun and still have an opportunity to raise some funds for this important community mission and cause.” said Dall Lukowski.
The game Frederick Place will be going to will be on April 26th against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tickets are $110 per person with around 30 spots left on the trip.
