MILWAUKEE — Opening Day for the Brewers is Thursday afternoon against the White Sox at American Family Field.

Even though the Brewers won a major league-best 97 games last season and were the champions of the National League Central Division for the third straight year, they always seem to be underrated nationally.

Blossoming Brice

Fresh off a successful World Baseball Classic for Team USA, it will be interesting to watch the performance of Brewers second baseman Brice Turang. He can only gain confidence from his solid showing. Turang played sparkling defense at second last season, one year after winning a Platinum Glove. Turang also hit 18 home runs, drove in 81 runs, and stole 50 bases last season.

Chourio rising

What is the next step for ascending superstar Jackson Chourio? Having just turned 22, Chourio helped his native Venezuela win the gold medal at the World Baseball Classic. He hit 21 home runs last season.

Chourio is still refining his game, but he made strides both at the plate and in the outfield last season. It’s exciting to know that the Brewers have him signed through 2031, with club options for the two years after that.

‘The Miz’

Speaking of rising superstars, pitcher Jacob Misiorowski was dazzling last season. He has been given the Opening Day assignment by the Brewers. Misiorowski is an intimidating 6-foot-7 and was named an All-Star after only five games.

He can throw a 104-mile-per-hour fastball. “The Miz” won five games last season with 87 strikeouts. He turns 24 on April 3.

The Brewers will be without starting pitcher Quinn Priester for at least the first month of the regular season because of a nerve issue in his wrist.
