Region and district play is in full swing for local baseball and softball squads, as teams look to gain early momentum towards postseason seeding.

Baseball

Madison Central went 3-1 over the last week, defeating Oxford 9-6, West Lauderdale 19-7, and Clinton 9-3, while falling in game two to Oxford 4-3 and moving to 10-8 on the season. Reed Sanberg led with three hits and four RBIs against West Lauderdale.

Germantown went 2-2 on the week, defeating Starkville 5-4 and Murrah 15-0, while also falling 5-4 to Starkville and Northwest Rankin 6-4 and moving to 13-8 on the year. Maddox Perry and Brayden Simpson threw three innings of perfect baseball against Murrah, striking out all nine hitters they faced.

Ridgeland extended its winning streak to five games with a perfect 3-0 week, defeating Canton 16-1, Vicksburg 12-0, and Greenville 14-2 and improving to 9-7 on the campaign. DK Wallace had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Titans over Canton.

Canton fell 16-1 to Ridgeland, but bounced back to earn a 15-2 win over Callaway and move to 8-4 on the season.

St. Andrew’s to a 6-5 loss to Southeast Lauderdale, but answered with three straight wins, defeating St. Joseph 7-3, Canton Academy 14-8, and Union 15-1 and improving to 14-6 on the year. Luke Peterson had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Saints over Union.

Velma Jackson defeated Philadelphia 11-10 and 27-8, before falling 11-0 and 15-0 to East Webster and moved to 2-5 on the campaign.

MRA earned a 7-0 win over Silliman Institute, 13-3 win over Tri-County Academy, and a 9-7 win over Parklane Academy to improve to 13-6 on the season. Rhett Taylor and Holt Adams combined for a one-hitter in the win over Silliman.

St. Joseph went 0-3 over the last week, falling 12-2 to Lamar School, 7-3 to St. Andrew’s, and 10-0 to Jackson Academy, dropping to 5-12 on the year. Reid Hager had a RBI double to lead the Bruins against St. Andrew’s.

Jackson Prep was swept by Hartfield Academy last week, but bounced back to earn an 8-1 win over Oak Forest Academy and move to 9-12 on the campaign. Sam Milner had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Patriots over Oak Forest.

Jackson Academy went 3-1 over the last week, defeating Houston (TN) 6-0, Father McGivney (IL) 13-9, and St. Joseph 10-0, but fell 16-12 to IMG Academy (FL), improving to 17-5 on the season. Fletcher Cox had two hits, including a home run, along with three RBIs to lead the Raiders over St. Joseph.

Tri-County Academy defeated Copiah Academy 11-0 and Leake Academy 16-1, but fell 13-3 to MRA and improved to 10-7 on the year. Grayson Rymer had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Rebels over Leake Academy.

Canton Academy went 3-1 over the last week, defeating Porter’s Chapel 15-0, Winona Christian 9-5, and Discovery Christian 18-0, while falling 14-8 to St. Andrew’s and improving to 7-14 on the campaign. Cole Ellison had three hits and two RBIs, while also throwing a complete game one-hit shutout to lead the Panthers over Discovery Christian.

Christ Covenant defeated Adams County Christian 14-0 and Porter’s Chapel 5-4, while also falling 6-5 to Adams County Christian and Riverfield Academy 16-4, moving to 7-7 on the season. Brooks Hassell had two hits to lead the Warriors over Porter’s Chapel.

Softball

Madison Central earned an 11-4 win over Oxford, but fell 11-4 to Hernando and 21-11 to Clinton, dropping to 8-12 on the season. Bet Pullen had two hits, including a home run and seven RBIs to lead the Lady Jaguars over Oxford.

Germantown went 4-0 over the last week, defeating Oxford 12-2, Warren Central 13-2, Kosciusko 10-0, and Starkville 9-2, improving to 12-2 on the year. Presley Merkich had three hits, including a home run, and seven RBIs to lead the Lady Mavericks over Kosciusko.

Ridgeland fell 15-0 to Neshoba Central and was swept by Warren Central, dropping to 5-12 on the campaign. Braylee Williams had a hit and a RBI to lead the Lady Titans against Warren Central.

Canton fell 21-4 to Greenville and defeated Callaway 8-4 over the last week and moved to 1-3 on the season.

St. Andrew’s went 0-2 over the last week, falling 15-0 to Union and Quitman 16-2 and dropping to 3-9 on the year. McNeil Martin had a hit to lead the Lady Saints against Quitman.
