MILWAUKEE, Wis. — For baseball fans, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. The Milwaukee Brewers are back in action at American Family Field on Thursday for Opening Day against the Chicago White Sox.
The Brewers are hoping to clinch a fourth consecutive National League Central title this season and build for a deep postseason run. The Sox, who in 2024 recorded the worst season in modern baseball history with 121 losses, are hoping for continued improvement after only losing 102 games last year.
Thursday’s game begins at 1:10 p.m. CT, and if you’re not heading to the ballpark you can watch it on Television Wisconsin. That’s Channel 3.2 over-the-air and TDS Channel 4. Every system is different, so search your channel guide for MyTV.
Parking lots at American Family Field will open at 10:10 a.m. on Thursday, three hours before first pitch, and the ballpark gates will open at 11:10 a.m. If you’re still in need of tickets, there are a few available. However, it’s slim pickings and you’ll have to pay a pretty penny. As of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, tickets in the upper deck were going for $92 on the Brewers’ website.
If you are taking yourself out to the ballgame, you may need to plan a different route based on where you’re coming from. Construction on I-94 is expected to impact roads around American Family Field. Luckily, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has created a website (linked here) showcasing all of the available routes that Brewers fans can take to get to the stadium.
You can pay for your parking in advance through the Brewers’ website or the MLB Ballpark app. Parking passes will be sent digitally through the Ballpark app, so it’s a good idea to download it before heading out the door.
The Ballpark app is also how you can access your tickets at the gate, making it even more important to have it downloaded.
Get to the ballpark early on Thursday to take in some pregame entertainment as well as opening ceremonies. The Brewers are expected to honor team members that competed in this year’s World Baseball Classic, as well as late MLB umpire and Mequon native Bruce Froemming.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love and Olympic gold medalist Jordan Stolz will have the honors of the ceremonial first pitch, and the WhiskeyBelles will sing the National Anthem.
On the field, young gunslinger Jacob Misiorowski will make his first Opening Day start as a Brewer against White Sox right-hander Shane Smith. The Miz made 14 starts as a rookie last season, striking out 87 batters over 66 innings and dazzling with his fastball.
Smith, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Brewers in 2021 before moving to the White Sox system in 2024, made his MLB debut as well last year. He made 29 starts, striking out 145 batters over 146.1 innings and allowing 62 earned runs.
In his one start against the Brewers last season, Smith allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits across 5 innings. However, three errors by him team let him down and the Sox lost that game 6-4.
The Brew Crew have many familiar faces on the Opening Day roster including Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras. Last year’s breakout star Andrew Vaughn will likely make Thursday’s starting lineup as well.
While he won’t start Thursday, Brandon Woodruff will return to the starting rotation after missing all of last season with an injury. The Brewers’ bullpen is full of returning players including Jared Koenig, Aaron Ashby and Trevor Megill.
