In an Opening Day battle of American League playoff teams from a year ago, the Cleveland Guardians pay a visit to the Seattle Mariners.

2026 MLB Opening Day wraps up on the West Coast. In the lone game in the late window, two defending division winners face off with the American League West champion Seattle Mariners hosting the American League Central champion Cleveland Guardians. Despite both teams being division winners last year they did not play each other in the postseason. During the regular season, the Mariners won four of the six matchups including a three game sweep in the Emerald City.

The Mariners’ 90 wins last year were tied for the most by the franchise since a 93-win season in 2003. A big part of their success was the play of MVP runner-up catcher Cal Raleigh, who will now look to build on his 60-home run, 125-RBI season from a year ago.

Meanwhile the Guardians won their division with an 88-74 record. Third baseman Jose Ramirez led the team offensively with 30 home runs and 85 runs driven in. He’s looking for his sixth consecutive All Star season in 2026.
