CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati police called in reinforcements Thursday evening to disperse crowds Downtown following the Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day matchup against the Red Sox.
Crowds flooded into The Banks and Over-The-Rhine after the game, and witnesses said fights began breaking out everywhere.
According to Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie, reports of large crowds came in and when police responded, they were met with resistance, making it hard to reach victims.
Police continue to disperse crowds in both locations. Hennie said they are doing so with minimal force.
Hennie said that people were using pepper spray and tasers on each other, which led to a few minor injuries.
Cincinnati police said that several people have been arrested, but details on charges have not been released.
