On Thursday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox played their first game of the 2026 season when they faced off against the Cincinnati Reds in Ohio.
The Red Sox won by a score of 3-0.
Red Sox Star Roman Anthony Made History

Roman Anthony finished the win with three hits and one walk.
He also made history with his performance.
Real App wrote: “Roman Anthony is the youngest Red Sox player with 3+ hits in an Opening Day game since 1965.”

Anthony was picked in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
He is coming off his first season in the Major Leagues where he batted .292 with eight home runs, 32 RBI’s, 48 runs and four stolen bases in 71 games.
Gabrielle Starr of The Boston Herald wrote during the game: “We’ve just seen Roman Anthony become the youngest player in Red Sox history to get a hit in the first plate appearance of the year, a replay review on a Jarren Duran single, and a Duran stolen base.
The game started 5 minutes ago.”

The Red Sox will have two more games against the Reds before heading to Houston for a series with the Astros on March 30.
They will then return home on April 3 when they host the San Diego Padres at Fenway Park.
FOX Sports: MLB wrote (on August 6): “The Red Sox are signing Roman Anthony to a deal through 2034, per multiple reports. Anthony’s deal with the Red Sox could reach up to $230 million”

Following the Red Sox, the Reds will remain in Ohio to host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
They will then head on the road to visit the Texas Rangers with the series beginning on April 3.
