ROBINSON CREEK — Is there anything better than a good ole’ fashioned pitcher’s duel?
Tuesday night at Shelby Valley, the region’s top pitcher — Belfry’s Molly Fahm — squared off against one of the top young talents in the region — Shelby Valley’s Chellsea Holbrook.
This early season meeting saw Holbrook, just an eighth-grader, come out on top with a complete game two-hit shutout to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 1-0 win over the Lady Pirates.
Holbrook finished the game with the complete game two-hit shutout that saw her strike out 13 batters and only walk one. She did all of that, while only throwing 79 pitches.
Holbrook scored the game’s only run as well.
Fahm was excellent in the loss. She went all six innings and gave up one run on three hits and one walk, while striking out 11 batters.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Holbrook got on base for the Lady Wildcats and she stole second and third. She scored on an RBI by Grace Hall to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Belfry got the tying run on third in the top of the seventh as the Lady Pirates looked to extend the game.
Holbrook got her 13th and final strikeout to end the game and give the Lady Wildcats the win.
Grace Hall and Abby Little had the Lady Wildcats’ two hits during the game.
Fahm, Baylor Hall and Grayleigh Williamson had Belfry’s hits on the night.
Shelby Valley improved to 1-2 on the season with the win.
The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to visit Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. Friday night.
Belfry fell to 5-2 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Pirates are scheduled to take on Middle Tennessee Christian at 6:00 p.m. Monday in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
