The Verona softball team won its first two games of the season on a spring trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Verona slugged its way to a 7-1 win over Coventry at the Cal Ripken Field on Thursday, March 26. The Wildcats were coming off a walk-off 4-3 win over Stow-Munroe Falls in the season opener on Wednesday, March 25.

Verona (2-0) will open the Big Eight Conference season on Monday, March 30, at Sun Prairie East.

Verona 7, Coventry 1

Junior Addison Quackenboss did it with her bat and arm to lead the Wildcats to a second straight win.

Quackenboss went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. She hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning.

Quackenboss pitched a complete game and struck out 15 to get the win. She limited the Comets to one earned run on two hits.

Verona scored two runs in the third inning to jump out to a lead. Quackenboss had an RBI single to center and Paige Gibbons delivered an RBI double down the right field line.

The Wildcats pounded out nine hits. Senior Morgan Kirwan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Savannah Wiggen went 2-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored.

Verona 4, Stow-Munroe Falls 3

The Wildcats scored two runs on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a walk-off win over Stow-Munroe Falls in the season opener.

Verona’s Emma VanDeventer went 2-for-3. The Wildcats got on the board in the first inning on Kirwan’s RBI single. Wiggen then delivered an RBI down the left field line in the third to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Quackenboss pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up three earned runs on six hits, while striking out eight and walking one.
