Danny P. Smith
Starkville rallied from a 7-5 deficit with a four-run sixth inning and defeated Oxford 9-7 at Carlisle Stadium at Yellow Jacket Field.
The Jackets remain undefeated at home in Class 7A, Region 2 play. They improved to 12-8-1 overall and evened their district record at 3-3.
Murphy Gordon had the big hit in the sixth inning with a two-run single to give Starkville the lead. BJ Hendrix walked and Zay Spencer walked before Will Moody lined a double to drive home Hendrix. With one out, Torian Knox hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped on the exchange and allowed Spencer to come home with the tying run. That also continued the inning for Gordon, who delivered the game-winning hit for the Jackets.
