BROCKWAY — With virtually the entire roster back from last year’s 17-3 season that wrapped up with a third-place finish in District 9 Class 2A, the Brockway Lady Rovers softball team has high expectations.

And, after Friday’s 14-4 rout of visiting Brookville Friday afternoon, it’s so far so good.

The Lady Rovers improved to 3-0 with a 10-run rule win in five innings. They’ve put up 47 runs so far in three games, but head coach Don Allenbaugh cautions it won’t be as easy soon.

“We have a tougher schedule than we had last year with the Central League this year,” said Allenbaugh, whose team hosts Johnsonburg Monday. “We’ll play DuBois and St. Marys and Punxsutawney, and I told the girls we want that. If we lose a game against them, that’s just going to make us better. The goal is to go 1-0 every game, and hopefully, we get better every day.

“We have our whole defensive team back from last year, which helps a lot. And we have young kids on the bench that want to take positions.”

The Lady Rovers scored in all five of their at-bats, walking off the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs with one out to enact the mercy rule.

Brockway put up five runs in the first inning and five more in the fourth to make it 12-2. The Lady Rovers banged out 13 hits, getting a 4-for-4 day from freshman newcomer Jenna Glasl. She doubled and drove in two runs.

Both Meeca Smith and Isabella Patton went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs apiece. Smith and Elysabeth Myers both hit triples.

In the pitching circle, Bailee Carberry went the first 4-2/3 innings and gave up six hits, walking six and striking out six, before Navayda Smith came on to get the final out of the fifth.

Brookville (0-3) scored a run in the first inning when Megan McKinney led off with a triple and scored on Palynn Lindermuth’s triple.

Cassidy Sarvey walked, and McKinney and Ainsley Blake singled to load the bases in the third before Lindermuth’s walk forced home a run.

Ava Nixon doubled in Jaiden Silvis in the Lady Raiders’ two-run top of the fifth.

Both Lindermuth and McKinney had two hits.

Lindermuth took the loss in the circle, giving up seven hits and five walks while striking out three. Seven of the 11 runs she allowed were unearned in three innings. Eliza Shaffer threw the final 1-1/3 innings, giving up three runs.

The Lady Raiders visit Central Clarion Tuesday at the C-L Sports Complex, while Brockway hosts Johnsonburg on Monday..
