The Chicago White Sox announced Friday that they have claimed pitcher Bryan Hudson off waivers from the New York Mets. Hudson was designated for assignment just before the start of the season.

What seemed as a guaranteed roster spot for Hudson soon turned into a disaster, as Hudson ultimately struggled during Spring Training. Hudson only played three innings but allowed five hits and six runs in the short amount of time on the mound.

Hudson was supposed to be the insurance replacement for A.J. Minter as he was recovering from an injury. Following Hudson being DFA’d before the start of the season, the Mets decided to choose Richard Lovelady to take one of the remaining spots in the 2026 roster which led to Hudson’s departure.

Before he signed for the Mets, Hudson was already pitching for the White Sox in 2025. He joined Chicago in the middle of the season from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Hudson would only play four games for the White Sox, earning six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings played. He was traded to Queens in February from Chicago but now has ultimately found his way back.

Now with a second opportunity in the White Sox, Hudson will look to take advantage of the opportunity and attempt to earn a spot on the roster this season. The White Sox will look to improve after a disappointing loss to the Brewers in the first game of the season.

As for the Mets, only time will tell if keeping Hudson of the roster was a good decision or not. The Mets do have a few left-handed pitchers to compensate for Hudson’s absence, such as Brandon Waddell and Matt Turner.

The Mets will look forward to having a positive season after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first game of the season. A playoff push is expected of the team after the rollercoaster ride the team has experienced the last two years.

In 2024, the Mets finished 3rd in the NL East but still qualified to the playoffs as a wild card team. The Mets impressed everyone in the playoffs, making it all the way to the NLCS before falling short against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets had high expectations for 2025 but would suffer one of the worst collapses in recent times. Despite a strong start to the season, the second half of the season saw the Mets collapse and ultimately miss out on the playoffs.

Despite losing some of their pitchers before the start of the season and with Hudson now moving to another team, the Mets will look to find that same rhythm that led them to the NLCS a few years ago. The Mets want to make a playoff push, and anything after that is a bonus.
