The St. Louis Cardinals (1-0) and Tampa Bay Rays (0-1) return to action on Saturday afternoon following an off day, with the Cardinals looking for a second straight win at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to open the season.

Alec Burleson capped an eight-run sixth inning on Thursday with a two-run home run to lift St. Louis to a 9-7 victory. The Cardinals’ big inning came after the Rays hung up six in the top of the frame to take a 7-1 lead. Rookie JJ Wetherholt hit his first major-league home run to put the Cards up 1-0 in the third inning and drove in two runs, as did Nolan Gorman and Nathan Church. Matthew Liberatore allowed a run on seven hits over the game’s first five innings.

Drew Rasmussen gave up only four hits, one of them Wetherholt’s home run, over five innings before the bullpen collapsed in the sixth for Tampa Bay. Jonathan Aranda hit a game-tying homer in the fifth and added a sacrifice fly during the Rays’ big sixth inning, while Jonny DeLuca delivered a two-run single during the outburst. 

Right-hander Michael McGreevy draws the start for the Cardinals on Saturday. He made 16 starts plus a relief appearance last season as a rookie, posting a 4.42 ERA and 1.254 WHIP in 95.2 innings. Joe Boyle, a right-hander, gets the call for the Rays. He made nine starts among 13 appearances last season, pitching to a 4.67 ERA and 1.365 WHIP with 58 strikeouts in 52 innings.
