Jacob Misiorowski shook off serving up a leadoff home run on Thursday, striking out 11 over five innings in Milwaukee’s 14-2 rout of the White Sox. Misiorowski induced 24 swinging strikes and teamed with four relievers to fan 20 batters, tying the MLB record for a nine-inning game. Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers homered in the win while William Contreras drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the second inning.
Chicago scored the first and last runs of the game on home runs, a leadoff shot by Chase Meidroth — the first opening-day leadoff homer for the franchise, which began play in 1901 — and the other by Japanese signee Munetaka Mutakami in the top of the ninth. Starter Shane Smith didn’t make it out of the second inning, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and a pair of walks.
Right-hander Chad Patrick starts for the Brewers on Saturday. As a rookie in 2025, Patrick put up a 3.53 ERA and 1.279 WHIP in 27 appearances (23 starts) and 119.2 innings while striking out 127. The White Sox counter with Sean Burke, also a right-hander, who posted a 4.22 ERA and 1.444 WHIP in 28 games (22 starts) and 134.1 innings last season.
