ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (KTIV) – Iowa Lakes Community College baseball returned to its home field Saturday for the first time since a February bus crash that injured more than a dozen team members and killed freshman outfielder Carter Johnson.
The Lakers played Kirkwood Community College at Hess Limberg Field. The first pitch was thrown at 2 p.m.
After several games on the road, the team returned to Estherville to play in front of the community that supported them following the crash.
Coach Chris Witzke said the community support has helped his team carry on. In the dugout, players hung Johnson’s number 8 jersey as a tribute.
The Lakers will play Sunday again at noon and 3 p.m. To see the latest on ILCC’s season, follow this link.
