The New York Yankees are getting their organization in order at the end of what is the opening weekend of the 2026 MLB season.

To do so, they released four pitchers who would’ve otherwise been assigned to minor league teams in the Yankees’ organization.

The four releases, according to Yankees Prospect Watch:

Mason VinyardCole ZaffiroGus HughesAlexis Paulino

All four of those guys are right-handed pitchers who are being set loose into free agency.

Vinyard was an undrafted free agent and did his best to climb the ladder. He made it to Double-A Somerset last season and put up a 4.05 ERA while also having a brief tenure at Triple-A. He’s 26 and a non-prospect.

Zaffiro was also undrafted, and he had a 4.42 ERA at Single-A Tampa in 2025.

Hughes was an 18th-round pick in 2024 and pitched for Tampa last season. He put up a 3.80 ERA at Single-A in 2025, which makes it seem like he may get another chance.

Paulino never made it out of the Florida Complex League with the Yankees.

The same account also reported that Ocean Gabonia is going on the 60-day Injured List after a 3.27 ERA that capped out at high-A last season.

None of these names will be relevant to MLB for a while, if ever, but it’s a chunk of players who will be looking for new homes.
