Why would Tim Leiper, the Mets’ third base coach, send Francisco Lindor, trying to score from first base on Juan Soto’s double in the 10th inning, to get thrown out at home on the Pirates’ brilliant relay … when Lindor represented the tying run AND there were no outs?

Lindor blamed himself: “I think I would’ve scored. I took a little bad of a route. I’m on board with Leip sending me there because we have talked about being aggressive. He made the right call.”

Counter-point: He did not. There were no outs. If that ball’s fielded cleanly out there — and it was, by Oneil Cruz — that’s got to be a stop sign 100 times out of 100.
