Missouri completed the sweep Sunday against Auburn, winning 6-4 in a back-and-forth game at the Jane B. Moore Field in Alabama. The sweep marks both the first SEC series win of the season for Missouri, but also its first conference series sweep since 2024.
Auburn struck first early in the first inning, capitalizing on a Missouri error to pick up a 1-0 lead. Missouri answered in the top of the third, after Stefania Abruscato hit a two-run home run to right field, driving in Addy Waits who started the inning with a walk.
In the bottom of the same inning, Auburn took the lead back with a two RBI single from Ava Ratliff. In the fourth, Auburn added one more with a SAC fly to go up 4-2.
Missouri took back the lead in the fifth and never looked back. Waits reached base again after a hit by pitch and was driven in off a RBI single from Abby Hay. Abby Carr then delivered the decisive swing, hitting a two-run home run to give Missouri a 5-4 lead.
Claire Cahalan kept the pressure on in the sixth, leading off with a triple before Waits continued her hot offensive day, hitting an RBI single to add an insurance run.
Carr continued her impressive freshman season, getting on base in three of her four at bats, with a walk, a single and her 10th home run of the season in the fifth. Carr is the first Missouri batter to reach 10 home runs this season.
In the circle, Missouri used a combination of Cierra Harrison, Carr and Marissa McCann. Starting, Harrison was quickly relieved through 2â…“ innings after Auburn’s hot start. She finished with one earned run, three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Carr replaced Harrison and allowed the two runs in the third that gave Auburn its early lead. She finished with two earned runs, three hits, one walk and zero strikeouts.
McCann finished the game in relief, retiring six of the final eight batters, including a 1-2-3 sixth inning. She finished with zero earned runs, one hit, one walk and one strikeout through 3â…” innings.
Missouri moves to 19-18 with the win, pushing its record above the .500 threshold. For a team that struggled early in the season, the series sweep sets the Tigers up well for a potential postseason run.
The Tigers play next at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Springfield as they take on Missouri State to begin the week.
