The Athletic | Chris Kirschner: ($) How about a few early takeaways from series one? After chasing fewer pitches outside of the zone than any other team last season, the Yankees’ early success with ABS looks a sustainable advantage. After largely learning the position on the fly last year, Ben Rice looks more comfortable at first. And a bullpen that appeared patchwork entering the season performed admirably, particularly when it came to limiting free passes, an issue which dogged them in 2025.

New York Post | Greg Joyce: As he gears up for his first Yankees start today in Seattle, Ryan Weathers brings with him a new approach to preparation championed by his pitching coach. Matt Blake has encouraged the former Marlin to reduce his throwing routine between starts, which the Yankees hope will lead to more sustainable performance. “Finding ways to take a breather every now and again — it doesn’t mean detrain yourself, but it also means give yourself a chance to recover and then keep building,” said Blake of the “less is more” philosophy.

MLB.com | Rob Terranova: Fresh off winning the James P. Dawson Award as the most outstanding Yankees rookie of 2026 spring training, Carlos Lagrange brought the heat in his Triple-A debut yesterday. The 6-foot-7 righty threw Minor League Baseball’s fastest pitch of the entire opening weekend, blazing a 101.3-mph heater in to Blue Jays prospect Yohendrick Pinango in his first frame. It was an encouraging opening salvo for Lagrange, who was held to 68 pitches but allowed just one run on four hits in four innings, striking out three (including Pinango) and most importantly, not walking a single opponent.

The Athletic | Brendan Kuty: ($) Here’s a bit of a victory lap after the Yankees’ commanding sweep of the Giants to open the season. “That’s what you want to do,” says Aaron Judge with Aaron Boone adding, in similarly understated fashion, “A good series, obviously.” The Yankee captain emphasized focus entering Saturday, having already won the series but hunting for the sweep. After his squad achieved that goal, they celebrated with joyous music and at least a few Coors Lights.
