The New York Mets will travel to St. Louis on Monday to take on the Cardinals in the first game of a two-game series at Busch Stadium. The Mets come into their first road test with a record of 2-1 after opening weekend, beating the Pirates in the first two games before falling in the finale as Pittsburgh avoided the sweep. The Cardinals also went 2-1 to open the 2026 season, beating the Tampa Bay Rays in the first two games of their series before dropping a high-scoring 11-7 game on Sunday. While the season is still young, the teams will both look to tack on two more wins early this week to gain some momentum before going into their respective weekend series.

New York opened the season with an 11-7 win over the Pirates before picking up a 4-2 victory. On Sunday, the teams closed out the series, but the game went to Pittsburgh in a narrow 4-3 win. Richard Lovelady took the loss on the mound after giving up the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Luis Robert Jr. and Brett Baty each finished the game with two hits for the Mets. Soto finished the game with two RBI while Marcus Semien was responsible for the third with a sac fly in the bottom of the second.

The Cardinals fell behind early to the Rays, trailing by three through the first three innings. Jordan Walker led the St. Louis offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, hitting a three-run homer to center field in the bottom of the fourth to bring his team within two. Pedro Pagés also had a strong showing at the plate for the Cards, connecting twice for two RBI in his four at-bats. Dustin May was credited with the loss on the mound after giving up six earned runs in four innings and striking out three.

In Monday night’s game, the Mets will give the start to right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes and St. Louis will counter with right-handed pitcher Kyle Leahy. Both pitchers will hope to bring their best in their first starts of 2026 to remain firmly in the rotation.
