The Dodgers sent minor league pitcher Mike Villani to Cincinnati in the deal.
In order to make room for Diaz on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Evan Phillips was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Diaz, 28, was an All-Star closer in 2023 with the Reds. He made 71 appearances that season, sporting a 3.07 ERA with 86 strikeouts over 67.1 innings pitched.
This season, though, has been a struggle for Diaz. He made just six appearances at the MLB level, sporting a 12.00 ERA before being optioned to Triple-A. His struggles continued in Triple-A, as he accrued a 4.61 ERA across 13.2 innings.
Diaz will now join the Dodgers in the hopes of regaining his old form.

As for the corresponding move, Phillips heading to the 60-day IL continues to add concern to the reliever’s injury.
Phillips was placed on the injured list in early May in what initially appeared to be a minor injury. However, Phillips continued to feel soreness in his forearm, and ending up getting a PRP injection.
Phillips still hasn’t been able to bounce back, and will now be out until July at the earliest.
