This offseason, the New York Yankees traded for a talented left-handed pitcher.
Ryan Weathers, aboard from the Miami Marlins, also has a very familiar last name.
Even without the name, Weathers would be key for the Yankees’ 2026 MLB season. He’s a southpaw whose velocity has continued to grow and looks like a rising star.
But yeah, that last name adds a special touch to the whole proceeding.

Who is Ryan Weathers’ dad?
Ryan Weathers is the son of David Weathers, the long-time MLB relief pitcher.
David Weathers was a World Series champion with the 1996 Yankees.
A right-hander, David Weathers pitched in 21 games for the Yankees, and they weren’t the best part of his big league career, totaling a 9.57 ERA. He had a 4.25 ERA overall in his 19-year MLB career.
David Weathers pitched for nine teams overall in his career: the Reds, Brewers, Marlins, Mets, Yankees, Blue Jays, Cubs, Astros and Indians.
He threw more than 100 games for Cincinnati, Milwaukee, the Mets and the Marlins.
It was already a cool overlap that Ryan Weathers got to spend part of his career with the Marlins, and now he carries on that overlap with his dad to the Yankees.
Ryan Weathers was the No. 7 overall pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Loretto High School in Tennessee.
And he’s continuing to follow in his dad’s footsteps.Â
