Boston Red Sox fans always love to hear when a player comes out and says he doesn’t like the New York Yankees. Whether that player is on the Red Sox or not, there’s always a strong hatred between New York and Boston. It’s one of the rivalries that make this game as great as it is.
There isn’t much hatred between the New York Mets and Red Sox, but that’s because they’re both in different leagues. Playing in the American League, the Red Sox don’t have to worry too much about the Mets in the National League, unless they met in a World Series.
However, one of the Mets’ top players, Freddy Peralta, made some comments, and Red Sox writer Brandon Glick believes this could be a sign of him wanting to play in Boston one day.
Peralta is a free agent at the end of this season, and there doesn’t seem to be any momentum on a potential deal.
“A Yankees hater? And a Red Sox fan? Craig Breslow, are you hearing this? It’s certainly a nice twist of fate that Peralta grew up a fan of the Red Sox, which would theoretically give them some type of nostalgic advantage if he hits free agency next winter.”
Does that guarantee anything? Not even close. Free agency rarely works that way, especially when Peralta is involved, and multiple teams should be willing to spend, but it does add a nice thing to talk about for Red Sox fans, and there’s an argument that they could use him if things go the way they’re expected to.
