Chase Field unveils upgrades for Diamondbacks home opener, get mixed reviews

  • March 31, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Chase Field features a new sound system, new roof cables and new food items for the Arizona Diamondbacks home opener against the Detroit Tigers.

The new giant scoreboard in center field is getting attention from fans. The 9,600-square-foot video board is 52% larger than the old scoreboard.

“The scoreboard is cool. I was here for first two spring training games here. It’s really big and exciting and a lot of information on board. You really have to pay attention to the big board. It’s exciting,” said Gary Carnell, a Diamondbacks season-ticket holder.

Fans showed up hours before game time to see the upgrades and buy new hats, shirts and jerseys at the team shop.

“It should be a national holiday, Opening Day. Everything should shut down. Everybody should come to the ballpark and support their local team,” said Cindy Fordyce, a Diamondbacks season-ticket holder.

LED ribbon boards create viewing issues

New LED ribbon scoreboards that run around the upper levels partially obstruct the view of the field in a couple of areas.

Team officials said they were not aware of this when the video boards were installed, but are working with season-ticket holders who want new seats or refunds.

“For some fans, the seats may be a partially obstructed view, but I clearly understand they previously were not and apologize. We had a similar situation years ago on the suite level when we first built its ribbon,” said Derrick Hall, D-backs president, CEO and general partner.

The Diamondbacks lost three straight games to the Los Angeles Dodgers to start the season, but fans said it’s a long season and the team can turn things around starting with the home opener.
