After leaving Monday’s game against the Colorado Rockies early because of a leg issue, the Toronto Blue Jays provided a modest update on starting pitcher Cody Ponce after the game.
Manager John Schneider said that Ponce is getting an MRI and they will see where things are at on Tuesday. Ponce said he felt his leg hyperextend.

The right-hander, who was signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, went 2.1 innings before exiting. He surrendered one earned run on one hit and one walk. He struck out three. Ponce was the MVP of the KBO in 2025. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Blue Jays dropped the contest 14-5 to fall to 3-1 on the season. It was the first win of the year for the Rockies, who are now 1-3.
Reliever Louis Varland was saddled with the loss despite giving no earned runs in 1.1 innings. He allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out three.

The rest of the bullpen struggled behind Varland as well, with Spencer Miles allowing three runs and Brendon Little allowing four. Catcher Tyler Heineman also threw two innings, giving up five runs.
The Rockies pounded out 17 hits in the win.
Offensively, Toronto got a home run for Kazuma Okamoto, marking his second straight game with a big fly. George Springer, Andres Gimenez and Davis Schneider each hit home runs as well. Springer now has two blasts also.
The two teams will play again on Tuesday afternoon at 4:07 p.m. ET. Ryan Feltner will pitch for Colorado while Max Scherzer pitches for the Jays. It will be the first start for both pitchers. Scherzer signed a one-year deal to remain with the Jays in the offseason.

–If Ponce is forced to miss time, it’s unclear who would take his place. The Jays already have Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios and Shane Bieber on the injured list. Depth starter Bowden Francis is out for the season because of Tommy John surgery and top prospect Jake Bloss is working back from his own Tommy John surgery and won’t be an option until later in the year.
