Video shows a brawl in the stands Friday night while the San Diego Padres took on the Detroit Tigers during their first homestand of the season.

SAN DIEGO — Video shared with News 8 shows a brawl in the stands Friday night while the San Diego Padres took on the Detroit Tigers.

The fight appears to have started with two before others joined in. At one point, those fighting actually slammed into other fans in the stands.

“It turned in from two people to a group. And then within 30 seconds, all the sudden, they come flying down the stairs, right into the woman who was on my right. I didn’t know her, but I got to know her because she came flying into me, unfortunately,” the Padres fan who witnessed and recorded the video, said. He requested to remain anonymous.

What led up to this fight is still unclear.

“The only thing that really drew our attention was we heard someone yell super loud, like, ‘do something about it then.’ But, like, really loud. And that’s when all of the sudden we turned around and it’s like everybody. They went at it,” the witness said.

He told News 8 that law enforcement soon arrived to break up the brawl.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) told News 8 that two people were arrested, cited, released, and ultimately expelled from the game.

In a statement, the Padres told News 8: “Petco Park is a welcoming, family‑friendly ballpark, and creating a safe environment for everyone is our top priority. We strictly enforce a fan code of conduct and maintain a zero‑tolerance policy for behavior that disrupts the game‑day experience. Individuals who violate the policy are subject to immediate removal from the ballpark, loss of future ticket privileges, and potential criminal prosecution.”

“The mood… in our section was definitely like everyone wanted to get out of there. The Padres were losing, the whole crowd… watched that whole fight, whole brawl go down. So, its kind of did take away the fun of the end of the game,” the witness said.

Meanwhile, SDPD added that during the games, SDPD officers work with Padres Guest Safety representatives and security to monitor the crowd and address issues as they arise.
