West Park-Roseville 4, Cardinal Newman 2 / Benicia 6, Cardinal Newman 1
The Cardinals dropped both of their games in the first day of the prestigious Boras Classic on Monday, falling to state No. 17 West Park 4-2 in the opener and to North Coast Section foe Benicia 6-1 in their second game.
The Cardinals (4-7) had West Park on the ropes in the opener, leading 2-0 heading into the sixth before the Panthers rallied in front with four runs. Three of those runs scored with two outs, including the go-ahead runs on a dropped third strike followed by an error on the same play.
Starting pitcher Legend Haile had a great day working before being pulled in the sixth. He finished with eight strikeouts, four walks and two hits with two earned runs allowed over 5 1/3 innings. Offensively, Jamie Vozaitis had two hits, including a double, with an RBI and Brody Cameron drove in a run with a hit.
The Cardinals weren’t as sharp in their second game against the Panthers, committing three errors and managing just two hits at the plate.
They’ll play again Wednesday. An opponent is not yet set.
Analy 5, Montgomery 4
The Tigers held off the Vikings in dramatic fashion Monday for their fifth straight win in NBL-Redwood play.
Analy (8-3, 4-0) ended the game getting the tying run out at home. Montgomery (2-8-1, 1-3) had scored two runs in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded with two outs before the game-ending play.
Emerson Johnston had two hits with two RBIs and Hunter Thomas hit his second home run of the season. Benji Parodi work four innings of relief with four strikeouts, three hits and one earned run allowed for the win.
For Montgomery, Nico Filice had two hits with two RBIs and Justin Howard had two hits with a run scored.
Next up, the Vikings will host St. Vincent on Wednesday while the Tigers will play at Santa Rosa on Friday.
Casa Grande 9, American Canyon 3
The Gauchos scored in every inning but the sixth and racked up 12 hits as they rolled past the Wolves in their Vine Valley Athletic League series opener Monday.
Adam Mercado doubled twice with three RBIs, Tyler Pelissetti had three hits, including a double, with two RBIs and Jonathan Morales had two hits with an RBI and three runs scored to lead the way offensively for Casa (7-3, 2-1).
Mercado also earned the win on the mound, striking out one with three walks and two hits with an earned run allowed over three innings.
The Gauchos will face American Canyon (5-8, 0-1) again on Thursday as they go for the series sweep.
San Rafael 1, Rancho Cotate 0 (11 innings)
The Cougars fell to the Bulldogs in a marathon nonleague game Monday.
Scoreless after 10 innings, San Rafael (7-6) finally broke through in the top of the 11th, plating the game’s only run on an RBI single from Jax Kolotkin.
Rancho Cotate (4-9) was then retired in order in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars got just one runner on base in extra innings.
Luke Morie and Easton Reichert both had a pair of hits for the Cougars and Porter Perdue struck out three with seven hits and no walks allowed over seven scoreless innings.
The Cougars have lost eight of their last nine games and will look to right the ship at Windsor on Wednesday in their return to NBL-Oak play.
