The St. Louis Cardinals dropped the opener of a three-game series to the New York Mets with a 4-2 loss Monday night at Busch Stadium.The Cardinals were limited to five hits in the game, with Alec Burleson driving in JJ Wetherholt on an RBI single in the first inning. Nolan Gorman added a solo home run in the sixth for his second homer of the season.St. Louis had limited opportunities at the plate, striking out nine times in the contest.
Kyle Leahy took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of work. He walked two and struck out one. Matt Svanson followed with two innings in relief, recording three strikeouts, while George Soriano added two scoreless innings.
The Mets secured the win despite going just 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position.
