Chase Field’s new ribbon boards are “obstructing the view of the playing surface, forcing the Diamondbacks to relocate ticket holders,” according to Nick Piecoro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The boards block what was “once a mostly transparent railing at the bottom of the 300 section in the upper deck.” According to one fan, Kyle Martin, the seats most impacted are “those in the front rows of the 300 sections,” but the boards also “cut into the view of those in the rows above.” Photos show “large swaths of foul territory as well as slivers of fair territory that are no longer visible to a seated fan.” A team spokesman said that the club “was unaware the boards would obstruct views when they were installed over the winter.” The organization is “working to relocate unhappy season-ticket holders” and said that it would “offer refunds to those who do not want to change seats.” A team official said that the club is “trying to solve the problem as best it can.” The D-backs “do not sound open to removing the boards.” Though Martin “does not see what choice they have.” Piecoro wrote the boards have also “changed the view from the press box,” forcing the D-backs to “relocate a group of officials whose views cannot be obstructed, including the official scorer and pitch-clock operator” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 3/30).
