The Diamondbacks will look to build some momentum on Tuesday night, March 31, after picking up their first win of the season the night before, a 9-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the series opener between the two teams.
The victory came after the Diamondbacks were swept in three games at Dodger Stadium over the weekend.

The Diamondbacks led, 8-0, on Monday night, March 30, before watching their bullpen implode for six runs in the seventh inning. They wound up holding on for the win despite the struggles.

At Chase Field: Pfaadt is coming off a down season, but one in which he still managed to log 176 2/3 innings. … His slider was a less effective pitch last year, but he seemed to take strides toward rediscovering it this spring, during which he racked up swings and misses with the pitch. … Pfaadt has faced the Tigers once in his career, and it did not go well. During a start last year, he gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. … Mize, the top pick in the 2018 draft, turned in a solid year in the Tigers’ rotation last year, bouncing back from a three-year stretch in which he dealt with injuries and inconsistent performance. … He has faced the Diamondbacks just once in his career, but lasted just 1 2/3 innings, needing 59 pitches. … Mize last season averaged 94.6 mph with his four-seam fastball. He also threw a splitter, slider, slurve and sinker.
