KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals added more than 200 seats at Kauffman Stadium following adjustments to the outfield fences.
The team installed 80 seats in the right field fountain deck and 140 in left field, bringing fans closer to the action.
“The fans are going to be even more in the action than they’ve ever been,” said Kayla Shively, Royals vice president of ticket sales and service. “Now, you can get more home runs, more tosses from the guys at the end of innings. They’re just going to be on top of everything.”
Fence changes could increase home runs
With lower fences and seats pulled in, the Royals expect more home runs at the stadium. The changes could make batting practice and game nights more interactive for fans.
“Fans can come in early and watch BP, so I’m sure we’ll get more home runs during our BP sessions, not only during games, but when the players are just chatting with the fans,” Shively said.

Left field seats now adjacent to visitors’ bullpen
One of the biggest changes is near the left field bullpen. The new fence line puts seats next to the opposing team’s pitchers.
“For the first time, our fans are going to be able to see into our visitors’ bullpen right up next to the action,” Shively said. “Our fans are going to be able to both see in the bullpen and get closer to the field in this new action.”
The fence height was reduced from 10 feet to 8.5 feet – everywhere but centerfield. The lower vantage point puts fans right on top of the action.
“It’s a lot closer,” Shively said. “Hopefully, we get some more fan-to-player interactions, just having fun and enjoying it. Being out here, it’s a lot lower. It’s going to look a lot different when fans finally get to come to the ballpark.”
