LEWISTON — Having to move a Friday game and a Saturday doubleheader to Lewiston due to wet fields in Grangeville, the Bulldog softball program didn’t bat an eye at losing home field advantage as they beat Priest River in all three games. The team now sits second in league, currently tied 3-0 with Orofino.
Starting strong Friday, the Bulldogs grabbed an 18-5 victory after earning nine runs in the first three innings and then doubling their score in the fourth with another nine, ending the game halfway through the fifth inning. Turning around the next day, Grangeville took their next two wins 13-7 and 16-0.
Grangeville head coach Jerime Zimmerman said despite some players being gone, the team played great all three days.
“Keely [MacGregor] pitched two complete games, and Kalli [Klement] pitched a nohitter in the last game Saturday,” explained Zimmerman. “Caryss Barger, Mikaela Klement, and Maddison Harris had a great weekend swinging the bat.”
Those bats included multiple singles plus Barger smashing two home runs, two triples and one double, MacGregor also had a homerun and Klement added two triples and a double.
“I’m very happy with all the girls,” smiled Zimmerman. “We had a few missing due to spring break, but the girls stepped up and won all three games. We’re very excited to get going again after break.”
Once they return, the Bulldogs will travel to Glenns Ferry for a tournament April 10-11 before returning to league play at home against Orofino April 14.
