CLEVELAND — Ohio City Inc. is hosting an inaugural Opening Day pre-game celebration this year, featuring a parade to Progressive Field.

The event is set for Friday, April 3, when the Cleveland Guardians host the Chicago Cubs for the home opener at Progressive Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.

According to organizers, The Market Square Park celebration will feature “an Opening Day Cookout with local vendors and ballpark favorites, our Rally Stage with music and entertainment, craft beer and beverages, yard games and family fun, a 50/50 Raffle with prizes and memorabilia, and special appearances by the Cleveland Guardians Hotdogs, Ketchup, Mustard, and Onion, and other mascots.”

Guardians mascot Slider will lead the parade across the Hope Memorial Bridge to Progressive Field. The event begins at 10 a.m., with festivities leading up to the parade at 1:45 p.m.

Connor Dickey, director of marketing at Ohio City Inc., joined 3News to preview the event.

“So the parade is going to be fantastic. It all takes place at Market Square Park, right across from the West Side Market. Ohio City Inc. is shutting down the space and we’re gonna fill it with a bunch of fun entertainment,” said Dickey.

Despite forecasted rain, Dickey said the event is expected to go on.

“This is a rain or shine event. We do have some tents that are gonna be set up and we have some ponchos that we’re planning on having on hand. But definitely dress appropriately and unless the game is canceled, we’re gonna be down there partying and walking the bridge,” said Dickey.
