There seems to be a growing consensus across several MLB media platforms that the Atlanta Braves MUST make a move for Minnesota Twins‘ All-Star Joe Ryan.
On Wednesday, FanSided’s Austin Owens predicted that Joe Ryan will be traded to the Braves at some point this summer, and Bleacher Report curated a similar post, with the Atlanta Braves being a top landing spot for the highly-touted starter.
Joe Ryan, like many other starters who were not traded at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, carried trade speculation throughout the offseason, but the 29-year-old ended up staying put with Minnesota.

Should the Braves Trade for Joe Ryan?
Here is the reasoning FanSided’s Austin Owens gives that makes the Braves a reasonable trade destination:
“Atlanta’s offense is good enough to at least kept them afloat until the deadline rolls around, but at least one more arm is needed behind Chris Sale (and potentially Spencer Strider, if he can stay healthy and return to his 2023-2024 form). Joe Ryan of the Minnesota Twins was an All-Star last season and finished the year with a 13-10 record alongside his 3.42 ERA. The 29-year-old righty struck out 194 batters in 171 innings, displaying how explosive his stuff can be.”
As for a solid trade package, the Braves could offer the Twins a starter for their own in Grant Holmes and young infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr., which seems like a pairing that could pull off a deal. Minnesota may ask for another young prospect, and the Braves should meet that demand if Joe Ryan is made available.

Are the Braves’ Starting Pitching Issues a Concern?
Despite coming into the 2026 season with multiple question marks in their starting rotation, the Atlanta Braves are off to a strong 4-2 start, and although you can not conclude a six-game sample size, Atlanta’s offense seems to be a real threat.
Considering the offense is so potent is why the Braves are being mocked in so many trade ideas to land Joe Ryan.
If the Twins decide to sell again this summer, Joe Ryan could join Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, and Spencer Schwellenbach to form a nasty top-four in Atlanta’s rotation.
Another scenario that could highlight the Braves’ SP need even further is if any more current starters go down with fluke injuries.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer also believes Joe Ryan would be a good trade fit just about anywhere:
“You also get the sense that there’s more to unlock with Ryan. His command is obviously excellent. His stuff is so good that Stuff+ rated it on par with that of Dylan Cease last season. This is how you get that much surplus value. If you’re the Twins, that’s your ticket to a huge haul that could help fast-forward the rebuild.”
