Fernandez replaced Pavin Smith, who is out with an injury. Already one-for-one, Fernandez hit his first homer toward left field and over the wall.
Down one in the bottom of the eighth, Fernandez connected on a three-run homer to complete the comeback win.
Fernandez is the eighth player in MLB history to hit two or more home runs in their debut. He is the first Diamondback to accomplish the feat.
“Grateful to God, very happy, more than I could have expected,” Fernandez said. “I returned to my days as a kid, just a dream come true… transports you back as a kid. Super incredible, just very thankful since the moment I came to Spring Training that [the Diamondbacks] welcomed me all the way.”
