The Wellsboro Hornets baseball team slipped to 1-1 with an 8-7 loss to Jersey Shore on Saturday, March 28.

The Hornets got on the board early with two runs in the first inning and another three in the second. Jersey Shore responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning to make it a one run game. Then in the fourth, Jersey Shore took the lead with another four-run inning.

Wellsboro rallied back to within one run in the fifth inning, but weren’t able to wrestle the lead from the Bulldogs.

Griffin Morral and Gabe Cuneo went 2-5. Marek Mascho was 2-4 with three RBIs. Macho started the game for the Hornets on the mound and allowed five hits and five earned runs.

“Despite difficult weather conditions, we played well enough to win,” said coach Kyle Smith. “Jersey Shore is a solid baseball team and they capitalized on a few more opportunities than we did. It was a quality early season baseball game which should help us moving forward.”

The Hornets looked to bounce back when they traveled to Towanda on Wednesday, April 1. The score from this game will be in next week’s paper.
