Chicago White Sox designate Rule 5 pick Jedixson Páez for assignment after three rough outings early in 2026 season. Veteran reliever Lucas Sims added to roster.

The Chicago White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Jedixson Páez for assignment on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, to make room for veteran reliever Lucas Sims on the active roster.

Páez, 22, was selected by the White Sox from the Boston Red Sox organization in the December 2025 Rule 5 Draft. He made the Opening Day roster but struggled in three relief appearances, allowing six earned runs on four hits (including two home runs) and three walks in just three innings pitched, with no strikeouts.

The move comes less than a week into the 2026 season. Páez will now be placed on waivers. If claimed by another team, he must remain on that club’s active roster for the remainder of the season under Rule 5 restrictions. If he clears waivers, he will be offered back to the Red Sox for $50,000. Boston can then assign him to a minor league affiliate without placing him on the 40-man roster.

Páez had never pitched above High-A before being selected in the Rule 5 Draft. He dealt with a partial calf tear that sidelined him for about four months last season.

The White Sox selected Sims’ contract from Triple-A Charlotte in the corresponding move. The 31-year-old right-hander had a strong Spring Training and posted a scoreless inning in his lone appearance with Charlotte.
