BALTIMORE — The Cincinnati Reds are down a starting pitcher the next turn through the rotation after putting left-hander Nick Lodolo on MLB’s paternity list Friday before the opener of a three-game series in Baltimore against the Orioles, for the birth of his first child.
Right-hander Carson Spiers has been recalled from Triple-A Louisville to take Lodolo’s scheduled start Sunday in the series finale.

Lodolo (2-1, 2.31 ERA in four starts) is allowed up to three days of paternity leave.

Nick Lodolo, who has produce four strong starts, will miss his scheduled start Friday after being put on the paternity list for the birth of his first child. Lodolo, 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA, will be replaced by Carson Spiers.
Spiers opened the season in the Reds rotation with Andrew Abbott needing extra time before his season debut. He went 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA, pitching well in a 1-0 loss to the Texas Rangers and struggling in a loss to the Brewers.
