WESTOVER — The Harmony baseball team has already found itself in a handful of close games this season and finally had one go in its favor Thursday, as Trevor Hugill ripped a two-run, walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to complete an 8-7 come-from-behind victory against visiting Penns Manor.

Hugill’s clutch hit saw the Owls overcome deficits of 3-1 and 7-2 on the day en route to capturing their first win of the season. The game was Harmony’s third this season decided in the final at-bat, with the Owls (1-4) losing the previous two in walk-off fashion in back-to-back against Ferndale and Shanksville.

The game was largely a pitcher’s duel between Harmony’s Parker Maseto and Penns Manor’s Tyler Mellott, with the visiting Comets holding a slim 3-2 lead after five innings.

Harmony opened the scoring with a run in the second when Jaxson Keith singled home Holden Knittle who singled himself with two outs to extend the inning.

Penns Manor answered right back in the top of the third, scoring three runs on three hits against Maseto to go up 3-1. Those proved to be the only runs Maseto allowed in five innings of work. He struck out 11 and walked four.

The Owls got a run back in the fourth when Jacob Pearce smacked a leadoff single and scored on a base hit by Hunter Pearce to make it 3-2.

Both offenses then exploded four runs in the sixth.

Penns Manor greeted reliever Hunter Pearce by scoring four runs on three hits, a pair of walks and a hit batsman. Just when it looked like the Comets had finally grabbed control, the Owls responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth.

Jacob Pearce was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then Keith singled. A Hunter Pearce single chased home Jacob Pearce before Keith scored when Maseto reached on an error.

Harmony then loaded the bases on a Carter Doland single and Maddox Hugill walk with one out. Maseto then raced home on a wild pitch to get the Owls within one before leaving a pair of runners in scoring position.

Hunter Pearce proceeded to retire the side in order in the top of the seventh, striking out a pair.

Penns Manor reliever Tyler Cooper then got two quick outs in the bottom of the seventh. However, Hunter Pearce exended the game with a single before the Comets intentionally walked Maseto.

The decision came back to haunt Penns Manor, as Doland worked a five-pitch walk to load the bases for Trevor Hugill, who sent the Harmony faithful home happy after ripping his two-run, walk-off single to win the game.

Hunter Pearce, who got the win in relief, went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead the Harmony offensive attack.

Jacob Pearce, Keith, Doland and Trevor Hugill all had two hits, with Hugill having. the two RBIs and Keith one. Maseto chipped in a hit and two RBIs.

Harmony is back in action Monday at home against Ferndale.
