Both teams are off to a hot start, winning five of their first six games to start the season. Both teams are coming off a sweep to open the year and a series win after dropping the first game of their last series. But the Yankees have beaten stronger teams in the Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants, compared to the Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies, for the Marlins. But a win is a win, and these two are leading their divisions to start the season. Miami has also scored 19 runs in its last two games to bounce back and win its series against Chicago. Still, though, New York will be the considerable favorite at home in the opener, with a -175 line to win its third straight.

The Yankees scored five runs in back-to-back games to bounce back from their series-opening loss against the Mariners. New York beat Seattle on Wednesday by a 5-3 final. Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Yankees up for good. New York will hope to get a start like that from Will Warren today against the Marlins. He went 4.1 innings of one-run ball in a game that the Yankees ultimately beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 last Saturday.

The Marlins dominated in their rubber match against the White Sox on Wednesday, winning 10-0. Sandy Alcantara has looked like his former Cy Young self in his first two starts to improve to 2-0. Alcantara threw the first complete game of the 2026 season on just 93 pitches, while only giving up three hits and striking out seven. Miami scored eight runs in the first three innings for plenty of run support, and the Marlins never looked back. Eury Perez will take the mound for Miami in this opener. The righty went seven strong innings against the Colorado Rockies in his first start of the year, giving up three runs but striking out eight.
