Friday’s rain provided the Milwaukee Brewers with a chance to slow down and take a deep breath.
They likely needed a break.
Through the opening six MLB games this season, the Brewers’ motion offense continues to historically challenge the brilliance of the 1915 Brooklyn Tip-Tops’ Federal League start.
Along with the 1976 World Series-champion Cincinnati Reds, the three clubs of vastly different eras stand as the lone clubs to collect at least 45 runs and 15 stolen bases through the opening six outings.
Brewers’ offense running wild, like Tip-Tops
Opening the regular season with a sweep of the Chicago White Sox at American Family Field, the Brewers put the league on notice after compiling 12 hits and seven stolen bases during a 6-1 win March 28.
The NL Central-leading Brewers (5-1) entered the weekend series at a rainy Kauffman Stadium leading the league in steals, RBI (43) and on-base percentage (.378). Their .279 team batting average ranked fourth.
Paced by Brice Turang’s .409 average and two stolen bases, the Brewers cruised to an MLB-best plus-28 run differential.
Following a rest day, the Brewers and Royals are scheduled to stage a doubleheader Saturday.
Will the refreshed Brewers continue to compete like the Tip-Tops?
