DETROIT. (WILX) – The Tigers came into Friday’s home opener riding a four-game losing streak but had no trouble ending the skid in their first game of the year at Comerica Park, beating St. Louis 4-0.

The Tigers are now 15-3 in their last 18 home openers at Comerica Park.

Framber Valdez, who signed with Detroit as a free agent this offseason, made his second start of the year and his first home start as a Tiger. Valdez held the Cardinals scoreless over six innings, striking out five while allowing just three hits and two walks.

After three-and-a-half scoreless innings to start the game, catcher Dillon Dingler put the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to left center field to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.

Riley Greene added an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-0 Tigers lead. It was also Greene’s 500th career hit.

The Tigers scored for the third straight inning in the bottom of the sixth when Javy Baez knocked in Parker Meadows on a base hit to make it 4-0.

Detroit improved to 3-4 on the year and hosts St. Louis for two more games on Saturday and Sunday.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch spoke to the press after beating the Cardinals 4-0 on Opening Day at Comerica Park.
