The New York Mets have assembled an extremely talented roster, but no player is better than Juan Soto.

And right now, the Mets are hoping Soto’s new injury isn’t a bad one.

Soto left Friday’s game in San Francisco against the Giants while sustaining an injury on the basepaths.

The Mets announced that Soto had been removed with “right calf tightness.”

A popular social media doctor, Jesse Morse, chimed in with his take on the situation.

“Juan Soto is dealing with a calf injury,” Morse wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Best case scenario this is just mild tweak and not actually a strain. Might take 1-2 games off and be ok. If this is a true strain, then he will likely miss a couple weeks.”

Juan Soto is having imaging done on his calf. The Mets staff saw him pull up while going first-to-third and alerted the trainers. He went back with them right away. There is some concern, but the Mets are confident they can cover left field in the event he goes on the IL.

It’s obviously early in the season, and the Mets will do everything they can to mitigate future risk. If that means a short stint on the Injured List for Soto now, so be it.

Still, they’d much prefer the shorter recovery here that gets one of the best players in baseball back in their lineup sooner rather than later.

Soto has begun the season well, going 11-for-31 for a .355 average with a home run and five RBI.

He has yet to steal a base after swiping a career-high 38 a season ago.

After the calf injury, Soto might take it easy on trying to swipe bases for at least a little while, even once he’s back on the field.
