Juan Soto’s second season with the New York Mets has gotten off to a stellar start, as he is hitting .355/.412/.516 with a home run and five RBIs to his name.
But the high vibes surrounding the Dominican star would grind to a halt on Friday night, when Soto left the Mets’ match against the San Francisco Giants in the top of the first after limping as he was rounding the bases.

It would initially be reported that Soto had left the match due to right calf tightness, but following the match, Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza had more to say about it.
“First to third, he felt something, and as he was standing at third base, he continued to get tight,” Mendoza explained.
Mendoza is concerned about Soto’s injury
Following the match, Mendoza told reporters that Soto is scheduled to undergo imaging on Saturday, which will hopefully provide more insight into what he suffered.
We don’t have much, other than what was announced, right calf tightness,” Mendoza said. “He’s going to get an imaging tomorrow, and then we’ll see what we’re dealing with.”

Despite not having more information on the Dominican star’s injury, the Mets’ manager is concerned about the region in which his star slugger was injured.
“There’s obvious concern, anytime you send a player in for an MRI,” Mendoza stated. “In those areas, the calf area, it could be tricky, but we just got to wait, but obviously concerned.”
Soto’s early exit wouldn’t stop New York from getting the victory over San Francisco, beating them 10-4, as Marcus Semien would finish the night going 3-5 with three RBIs.
If the Dominican is to miss time, the Mets could look to use Tyrone Taylor, who came in for Soto on Friday night. Taylor has yet to record a hit in his nine at-bats this season, but hit for a .223/.279/.319 batting line with New York last season.
